Lou Holyman // Stoney Rise Wine Company

By | Pinot Artists | No Comments

In the Tamar Valley, Northern Tasmania, Stoney Rise is a 30 year old vineyard, where Joe Holyman produces all the wine in his big green shed. Apparently during vintage, he doesn’t wear many clothes and usually works into the wee hours of the night listening to loud music. While his wife isn’t sure if it’s all work, she enjoys the wine. (Maybe she should follow him on social media to check?)

For Stoney Rise, it’s all about drinkability, and the enjoyment of sharing wine with food and friends. They grow their grapes and create wines with minimal inputs… and maybe some nude pigeage, of course.

We sat down with Lou Holyman to chat all things Pinot:

Are you a Palooza Virgin?

Nope – Lou can’t exactly remember (might be a bit hazy from the Pinot), but they’ve done every year with us!

When no one is watching, I drink…

Joe’s drink.

My Pinots are best for…

Anytime people have friends come over.

My favourite drinking hole is…

Saint John Craft Beer.

The one song that makes you dance when the beat drops…

Don’t laugh… I can’t help it – it’s catchy and yes we have a tween in the house!

My Pinot’s are best paired with…

Stoney Rise Pinot – maybe BBQ’d salmon. Holyman & Project X – wagyu brisket.

Drink with them in the flesh in:

SydneyMelbourne & Brisbane.

Tessa Brown & Jeremy Schmölzer // Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown

By | Pinot Artists | No Comments

From Beechworth, in north-east Victoria, Tessa and Jeremy return to the party to bring you their unique Pinot. Give their Pinot a try, but only in Melbourne.

Over a Pinot (or two), we caught up with Tessa Brown & Jeremy Schmölzer to chat all things Pinot:

Are you a Palooza Virgin?

Nope, they’ve rocked out with us before!

When no one is watching, I drink…

Cups of tea because I’m very pregnant. When not pregnant, amaro. Lucano is the current fave.

My Pinots are best for…

The question makes specific mention of Monday: I mean, you can definitely use our Pinot to ethanol-load and dull the senses before ABC Q&A on a Monday (poor Monday), but we reckon our Pinots are best for roasting chestnuts around an Autumn campfire and telling yarns to friends and family.

My favourite drinking hole is…

Hahaha my home ‘city’ is Ingham, in Far North Queensland. My favourite drinking hole (childhood lounge room) there is the Ashton Hotel. It’s a great place to sink a few mango tinnies. But I think you mean Melbourne. That would be Gertrude St, Enoteca (North) or Smalls Bar (South).

The one song that makes you dance when the beat drops…

My Pinot’s are best paired with…

Good conversation and laughter. Pine mushrooms and rabbit braise goes alright too.

Drink with them in the flesh in:

Only Melbourne!

Marcus Satchell // Dirty Three Wines

By | Pinot Artists | No Comments

For Dirty Three Wines, it’s all about the dirt. They believe that great wine tastes the way it does because of the dirt it’s grown in and the hands that got dirty making it. With vines grown in “Holgates Road” in Leongatha South, Victoria, South Gippsland is known to produce some of, if not the best, Pinot Noir in the country.

Try their Pinot for yourself in Sydney and Melbourne!
