We are but days away from Pinot Palooza Singapore, so to help you prepare we asked some of our favourite local somms for their advice on how to do it right.
So many wines on tasting can all be a little overwhelming, so we suggest approaching it as you would a music festival. Think of the different styles of wine as stages, and instead of judging a wine as either good or bad, think about whether or not you enjoy it. It’s a matter of what you like and feel like at that moment in time.
So, think about it like this …
This is the headline act which you absolutely have to check out. If you haven’t heard of them, you soon will. This one’s a must.
This is one you’ll cough up good dollars for.
A little left field, alternative, unique, intriguing and captivating. Not mainstream and all the better for it.
This is your new, up-and-coming Pinot artist, or one who’s undergone reinvention.

Dance Tent: CARRICK – Clever Pinot Noir from Central Otago. Have a chat with Francis and ask about where the after-party and the after-after-party is tonight, starting at RVLT.
MANUELA TONIOLO, Restaurant Manager at Cheek by Jowl
Manuela, with her partner Rishi Naleendra, run what we believe to be one of the best restaurants in Singapore. Not only is it incredibly good value, it’s incredibly good – think sunchokes and mushrooms in an onion broth, or warm cheese bread with a rich, Comte dip. You can read more about it HERE.

Purity of rich fruit and sweet-savoury game meats erupt into your nostrils, with a lingering sense of being salt-baed with rose petals. So fucking good. Poised layers of complexity, feat. tapering length of fine tannin so in tune with the crunchy chew, fleshy ripe fruit and spicy dry mouth that its like Flume mixed it across your tongue’s crossfader into an off-beat drop, then let you be little spoon.
VIP: GIANT STEPS
An OG putting out nothing but bangers that won’t be, and shouldn’t be, changing anytime soon. This is the business.
A perfect example of how everything is better when Art meets Science. This is a juicy bomb blast with an integrity of composition that is the happiest balance of fruit expression and savoury nuances.
Emerging Talent: RISING
Tommy B, take a bow. Wearing a very different style of hat compared to his Bobar label, but it’s like watching Chet Faker turn into Nick Murphy. Quality and creativity meets maturity.
Chill Out Room: BINDI
A stand up example of minimal intervention winemaking undertaken with care and attention. The fruit is always the loudest voice in the room with these wines and this light and bright number is no exception, declassification be damned!
Dance Tent: TOLPUDDLE
A cure for me whenever I’m homesick, this bright new-world-old-world crossover walks in like a badass every time and the swagger is justified. Quality is never a concern here.
