Picardy, in the Pemberton region of Western Australia, is owned and operated by Bill, Sandra, and Dan Pannell. It’s not a region super well known for Pinot, but that doesn’t stop the Pannells from making some pretty amazing ones over in the west. Want proof? Picardy won the Perth’s People’s Choice competition in 2017… their first ever event with us. Great work, guys!
2017 was your first Pinot Palooza. How was it for you?
We participated in Pinot Palooza in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. For us it was a fantastic event with a very knowledgeable customer base. We were asked many in depth grape growing and winemaking questions. We sold a bit of wine and also got a lot of names for our mailing list.
How did it feel to win the Perth’s People’s Choice comp?
We were very happy as it was voted by people who actually buy the wines!
Tell us something really cool about your wines?
Our Pinots are made from up to 11 clones.
What style do you think characterises the Pinot of your region?
Finesse and complexity with very fine grained tannins.
Tell us three things we need to know about your region?
The Pemberton wine region is very cool with climatic conditions similar to Burgundy during the ripening period, and we have deep well drained gravelly soils. We also need to work hard to keep crop levels and berry size down.
